Setting up Imaging Systems

Creating imaging systems that are efficient, cost effective and of a consistent quality is a top priority to most clients. Below are some questions we ask to help you achieve this goal:
  • Image Capture: What is the best way to capture the image you will be using? Is it PhotoCD, a low-res or hi-res scan? What about a digital camera or digital back to a large format camera? What will be your final output? On demand desktop publishing, offset printing or hi-res inkjet print? This will effect the DPI (Dots per inch or resolution quality) you will require for image capture.
  • Image Presentation: Are you going to be using large format final output, or some type of presentation requiring a LCD panel or projector? How many bells & whistles do you require? Will a simple program suffice or will you need the sophistication of multiple programs combined? Will you require narration or music? Will you want some 3D renderings and animations?
  • Image Management: How are you going to organize your digital files? Does your image database need to be hooked up to an information database? What about retrieval? How quick and how much storage space will you require? How much info and how many fields will you want associated with your images and what will you want them linked to? Who will have access to editing images and who will only view them?
  • Color Management systems: Helping you achieve WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get): What is the lighting set up that you work in? Is it the same as the color temp (in Kalvin measurement) you have set up on your monitor. Have you checked your monitor's color against the output from your service bureau and other monitors in your office? How do you set up your controls from monitor to final output to achieve consistent quality in your final color? Do you know what ICC profiles are? Do you use them?
